One characteristic of effective officers is the ability to recognize and manage their emotions. In fact, studies have demonstrated that individuals with higher levels of emotional intelligence (EI), relative to others, are better able to perceive and manage their emotions, have more positive social interactions, and engage in fewer problem behaviors, including aggressive and violent acts.
